Weekly digest 26
Sunday, May 18, 2025- Had a lovely day with my boys in the park of a nearby town (a town my wife and I would very much like to move to if we can ever afford it).
- A decent week for fitness — went for a ruck on both weekends, got to the gym once, and did a bit of home workout a couple of times.
- The study/office room in our house is now more-or-less up and running, finally.
- Received some truly tragic and upsetting news from a close friend yesterday. I know he sometimes checks this site so, if you're reading this, I'm thinking of you a lot.
- My MyCrossword RSS feed site has stopped working, and I'm somehow locked out of ssh to fix it. Will be contacting support.

I owe a couple of these to beardyguy
- I Want to Love Linux. It Doesn’t Love Me Back. I love Linux, but perhaps that's because I don't depend on assistive technologies. Important post; I hope developers start waking up to this issue.
- Shrimp are the most abused animals on Earth. The numbers in this article are staggering. 500 billion farmed shrimp are killed every year, and possibly up to 30 trillion wild shrimp. And, as this interviewee explains, we have every reason to believe shrimp are sentient.
- Why the depth year was my best year. Old article, new to me, about the unexpected benefits of taking a year to go deeper with your existing books/interests/stuff than picking up new things. This is difficult to do for me.
- Refusing tech fascism (via BeardyGuy). Very interesting article, especially the distinction between the original fascism and what it calls tech fascism, as a specific development.
- On Dehumanization.
- Making git prose-friendly. Another old post, but I've was looking for tips on how to use git better for writing and drafting and this post was very useful.
Watching
Finally got around to starting Season 2 of Andor and it's so good. My wife and I are enjoying Race Around The World as well.
Playing
Finished Echoes Of The Eye. It's very good, but not quite as incredible as the base game of Outer Wilds. Started Sekiro, at a friend's recommendation (and lending). It's so hard, I absolutely suck at it so far.
