Sunday, May 4, 2025Happy Star Wars day to those who observe.
- Pocket Reform assembly has been fun, but the processor module arrived damaged, so it's had to go back to MNT in Germany for a repair.
- Speaking of Reform, while the far-right party made significant gains in Thursday's election, at least my council didn't go that way. My seat retained its (very good) Labour councillor.
- Switched from

to manage my dotfiles. - The Guardian's Friday crossword had a fun theme.
- Toilet training has finally come good. It didn't come easy to him, and it was quite stressful, but we've more-or-less cracked it.
- I've been learning Go (the programming language, not the game) for fun. I was toying between Rust and Go but as a first statically-typed language I eventually settled on the one with simpler syntax and garbage collection. Go seems very nice, the standard library seems great (something I always miss when not using Python), and the tooling seems straightforward compared to the languages I already know (the
go
command handles compiling, packaging, libraries, and testing). Rust will be one for another time, I think. - Brandon of brandons-journal.com has been driven to shut down his site after being piled on when he criticised one of the sides in the social.lol--micro.blog owner spat. That's a shame; I enjoyed his blog. ``Woke'' pile-on culture is a reason I left Twitter.
- Finally finished flooring the upstairs of my house today. Infuriating because we bought another batch of the LVT flooring to finish the job and also to have some spare for a potential modification we want to make at a later date. The new batch of the exact same product did not properly join with the old batch. It only fit the old batch on one side. Now the situation was I was doing the whole upstairs as one contiguous floor, and had one room left to do, so I was starting from the doorway to that room (rather than in one corner, where you would usually start). This meant I laid the new tiles in one direction — through the door and right — just fine , and only found I couldn't lay the rest when it came to tiling to the left of the door. Figured it would be pretty hard to raise a complaint when I had already used half the tiles... thankfully, I did have enough of the old batch to just about finish the other side of the room.
